One day, Megumi realised that she felt empty when her arrangements died and wanted to take up something that lived longer. Bonsai become her new consuming passion, which she sees as the perfect combination of artistry, horticulture and people. Megumi has bonsai in her private collection and loves all of them like children.
There are many styles to creating bonsai, and the pruning and wiring is very involved. It has a beautiful root system and is in the Moyogi informal upright style and features a jin where the bark has been peeled off a branch to purposely create some deadwood. This is called Yose-ue or forest bonsai, and the thicker, taller tree, like a father, is planted in the middle with the medium and smaller trees the mother and children planted around. Together they form a single crown. The Japanese red pine Pinus densiflora , which is a year-old tree, has its apex titled slightly toward you, which Megumi says is to say hello!
